Each of her grandchildren has, as a special memory, a quilt which was hand sewn by their grandmother. Quilting was a favorite activity for LaVerne. She was unabashedly proud of her children and grandchildren. She worked alongside Malone in the family farming eneterprises and was employed for many years by Heidenheimer’s Department Store. LaVerne’s life was dedicated to her church, her husband, her children and to her large extended family. A long-time member of Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger, LaVerne taught Sunday School for over 35 years, served as hospitality chairman for the church for 15 years, and held many offices in the Woman’s Missionary Union of the Southern Baptist Convention local organization.
